[Dog and Cat Health] Constipation should not be ignored
Normal defecation should take 1 to 2 days. If the defecation is not smooth, the feces will stay in the intestine for a longer time, making the feces hard and larger, resulting in difficulty in defecation, which is constipation. At this time, even if the dog has already made a defecation posture and starts to hold his breath and exert force, there is no way to defecate smoothly. Once the feces stays in the digestive tract for a long time, the feces will eventually cause pain in the digestive tract or other nearby internal organs in the abdomen. Therefore, normal defecation has become one of the indicators of health.
When there are tumors in the dog's digestive tract, or foreign objects blocking the intestines, it will hinder intestinal peristalsis and prevent feces from being excreted smoothly.
If a dog suffers from a perineal hernia, the rectum may protrude out of the abdominal cavity through the hernia hole, causing difficulty in defecation. There are even cases where pelvic fractures compress the rectum, causing abnormal defecation.
In addition, dietary habits such as insufficient water intake in the diet, lack of exercise and excessive fiber intake, leading to excessive stool volume, are also the killers of constipation.
Therefore, once constipation causes gas to stay in the gastrointestinal tract, it can also cause severe pain and even intestinal volvulus. Therefore, when the owner finds that the dog has not defecated for more than two days despite eating normally, be sure to take him to the animal hospital for examination. What the hell happened!

We can observe the symptoms of our fur baby to determine possible diseases.
1. Unable to defecate and have no appetite → large intestinal constipation, megacolon
When feces stagnates in the intestine for too long, ammonia and nitrogen will be produced in the intestine. Due to the influence of these gases, they will burden the kidneys. At the same time, the gas will also accumulate in the abdomen, causing abdominal compression and affecting appetite. . In order to avoid this situation from happening, we must regularly cleanse the dog's intestines as a preventive work to prevent feces from being retained in the intestines.
2. The stool is hard and the amount that can be excreted at one time is small → Prostate hypertrophy, prostate cyst, pelvic stenosis, and pelvic fracture
If you think that even if the amount of feces that can be excreted at one time is small, it is considered normal defecation, and you take it lightly, the feces in the dog's intestines will slowly accumulate, causing intestinal hypertrophy, muscle relaxation, and finally causing the intestinal peristalsis to be unable to move normally!
3. Pain during defecation → anal sacitis, swelling around the anus, perineal hernia
When dogs show extreme pain during defecation and readjust their defecation many times, this situation is mostly caused by problems from the rectum to around the anus, especially inflammation of the anal sacs and tumor compression around the anus. If it reaches the anus or there is a tumor in the abdominal cavity, defecation will be more painful. In this case, surgery is required.
4. Abdominal swelling → volvulus, intussusception, hepatic encephalopathy
It may be caused by the accumulation of feces, which causes gas in the intestines and causes abdominal swelling, or there may be abnormal or abnormal peristalsis in the intestine itself, which may cause gas in the intestines. Shock can easily occur in such a situation. Therefore, once your dog’s abdomen is swollen, please take it to the animal hospital as soon as possible for surgical treatment of volvulus and intussusception.
5. Unable to hold your breath and exert force → encephalomyelitis, intervertebral hernia, hip dislocation
At this time, the paralysis caused by damage to the nervous system such as encephalomyelitis may make the dog unable to hold his breath or exert force, causing difficulty in defecation. Or it may be due to the pain caused by intervertebral plate hernia and joint dislocation, which makes the dog unable to make defecation postures, and will eventually cause constipation.
